Go Knicks
by A Secret Service Agent
I can’t give you my name but can say I felt bad for President Donald Trump when his motorcade approached Madison Square Garden and passed a horde of angry people screaming, “New York hates you… New York hates you… New York hates you.” That’s the most emotional crowd I’d ever seen.
Inside the Garden, where the New York Knicks hosted the San Antonio Spurs in game three of the NBA finals, President Trump and his teenage granddaughter were guests of the Knicks’ owner. On the security end of things, I felt pretty comfortable that Trump and the teenager were inside a specially built bulletproof compartment where they stood during “The Star-Spangled Banner.” The president saluted and didn’t flinch when the big scoreboard flashed his image and ignited a thunderstorm of boos from twenty thousand fans who loved the Knicks but didn’t care for the hometown guy who’d become their commander in chief.
I guess the president’s got bad ears because after the game, which the Knicks lost, reporters asked how he felt about his reception. He said it was great.
Hadn’t he heard the boos?
“Not really,” he said. “What I heard sounded like cheering.”
