Readers Delighted by Ace
April 20, 2013
I’m thrilled scores of readers wrote about recent account of my hole in one. They wanted tips. How do I hit ball so straight, not only on par threes but with big stick off tees? How do I knock putts straight into holes? I didn’t write or even imply I did those things but realize should’ve given little more information. Two current professional golfers, requesting anonymity (you’ve heard of them), offered me few thousand plus expenses to work with them one day. I explained even with ace on seventh hole that 1993 day I would’ve only had forty if parred eighth and ninth. I did par eighth but, typically, sliced two out of bounds on ninth, bombarding condominium roofs, and posted quintuple bogey nine to make turn at forty-five. On back side I shot forty-one, tying career best, and posted eighty-six for eighteen to establish new personal record. That also marked third and final time I broke ninety, and few months later retired from sun-roasting time-burning sport of golf. When I sent pros these truths, they withdrew offers.
