Dirty
May 11, 2023
Kevon Looney of the Golden State Warriors is a dirty basketball player. Last night he intentionally elbowed Anthony Davis of the Lakers in the head but nervous referees swallowed their whistles. In the preceding playoff series, against the Sacramento Kings, Looney did the same to Domantus Sabonis – on a jump ball. Referees didn’t respond that time, either. The NBA needs to step in before players are seriously injured.
There is also another issue. Should teams and players like the Warriors and Kevon Looney be rewarded for dangerous and unethical play, which could knock a concussed Anthony Davis out of crucial game six Friday and, in effect, hand the Warriors this exciting series?
What does NBA commissioner Adam Silver think about this? He hasn’t responded yet. His predecessor and hero David Stern did nothing when Karl Malone almost killed Derek Smith with a sucker punch he lied was a basketball play. Malone also knocked out David Robinson with a malicious elbow to the head and ripped open the forehead of Isiah Thomas with another elbow strike. Thomas needed forty stitches to close the wound. These foul moves are for mixed martial arts, not basketball, and would be illegal even in football.
So, what are you going to do, Adam Silver? I bet you don’t do squat.
